I’m very, very happy to announce that Blogger has enabled bloggers to back up their Blogger blogs! I’ve been with Blogger for over ten years, and I am very pleased that this feature has been implemented. In the past, bloggers had to sign up with WordPress.com and use that software to force an export from Blogger blogs. Blogger has been notoriously slow with new developments– slow until Blogger in Draft came on the scene. For your information, Blogger in Draft is:
a special version of Blogger where we try out new features before releasing them to everyone. Think of it as our sandbox, or laboratory, or just “Blogger + new things.” By taking your feedback and looking at what works and what doesn’t, we’ll be able to make features that much better when releasing them to everyone.
You can test out new Blogger developments through your Blogger blog here. All you do is sign in to your Blogger blog through Blogger in Draft. The new features are instantly available through your Blogger Dashboard.
OK, on to the export feature. You can export your blog into a downloadable file that you save on your computer hard drive. Should anything happen to your Blogger blog, or should you want to move your blog posts to a new blogging format (such as WordPress), you can upload this file into your new blog. But most importantly, use the export feature as a way to save and backup your posts. Do it regularly– Blogger will only download what is already written on your blog at that present time; it will not automatically save and store any future posts you write.
1. Log in to your Blogger blog.
2. Go to “Settings” and “Basic.”
3. Look for “Blog Tools” (first in line on the page there).
4. Click “Export blog.”
5. Click “Download Blog.”
The download window will appear and you can store a copy of your blog on your hard drive.
I’m very, very pleased Blogger has finally introduced this feature. You put a lot of work into your posts– be sure to back them up.

Once it’s on your hard drive and over time you’ve added new articles to your blog, do you delete it from the hard drive and then add a whole new backed up blog?

Donna: yes. You must make frequent backups as you add more content. I backup my data, but I always keep a few older ones (I save the backups in folders that are named by the date saved) just in case something goes wrong with a more recent backup.

You can also backup your blog and store it online with http://www.dmailer.com/dmailer-backup.html .
I used a lot of softwares before i found Dmailer and to say that is better to make at atleast 1 week backup.
So you know that if you will loose any of your data wont be for a long time.

Thanks, Rebecca! This is a very helpful article. I just backed up mine because Google is deleting any blog with the words free in them. I talk a lot about free downloads, so this is very good. Thanks again.
