Kathy, I couldn't agree with you more. After spending several hours researching the original problem, the cure was almost as painful as the disease. I'm not afraid of reformats (I usually do them every year, anyway, when I can, on all the home computers) and this solution was much easier. Plus, as you said, YOU'RE SURE it's clean.

Thanks for your comment!

I'm a fan of the reformat too, depending on what I'm dealing with. Sometimes it actually less time-consuming to do that, and then you're sure it's clean. I'm all about knowing for sure!

Good breakdown of what to do if / when it happens.....

Myself I've always followed the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy advice, which is:

"Don't Panic"

And equally fortunately I've never had a virus myself that I haven't deliberately invited in but have dealt with many an issue for friends who thankfully have phoned me first in 8 out of 10 cases. My first words were always 'don't panic'.

However I question why you seem to imply that the fault is down to firefox?

Perhaps the only other thing I'd personally add (in terms of stopping / dealing with) from long years of experience is to use a different vendor for your AV to that of your firewall. No hard & fast reason why, just my experience.

My final thought of the day and one I practice is to browse in a sandbox and by far the easiest one I've come across is sandboxie and I even have it configured on my children's PC to auto-open the browser via a sandbox session.

Who doesn't like the convenience of the internet? The local retailers, that's who. Every Christmas I swear I am going to buy neat things from the main street gift shops and local craftsmen, and every year I do more and more shopping online. What will our main streets look like in 10-20 years-- big online shipping warehouses with restaurants in between?

Nice explaination! I have read much about cloud services, but have never read just a simple article that explains the meaning of cloud service. The article is nice for those who just begin to get into cloud computing.

An excellent summary of the online shopping experience. I like this way of making purchases. It is fast, I can compare multiple sources and products and even when I do have to pay shipping that usually costs less than it does to drive into the city. On the down-side I may have to wait to get the product in my hand.

Do you have anything against refurbished computers? I have saved a lot from buying refurbished items and the products I get have always been good quality and last longer than some things I have bought new. I have a Dell that I bought refurbished for about $119 once during a holiday deal about two years ago. It still works great and it serves its purpose. It's great for surfing the net, watching DVDs and other tasks.
