How to Save Your Printer History

Windows Tweaks

Did you know that you can configure Windows to keep a record of printed documents that print from your computer? This is very helpful if you print the same documents frequently, or if you want to keep a record of documents that have been printed. You can manage your printer document history through the “Printer Queue.” The setting is off by default, but you can enable it.

Go to the Control Panel of your computer, and look for “Printers.” Right-click on the printer you want to manage. Select “Properties” from the menu. Select the “Advanced” tab. You will see a box “Keep printed documents.” Select the box to check it. Save your changes and close the windows. The changes will take effect immediately.

To view printed documents on the printer, you can go back to the “Printers” in Control Panel, and double-click the printer icon. The Printer Queue window will appear. To reprint a document that is shown in the list, right-click on the title and choose “Restart” from the menu. To remove the document from the list, choose “Cancel” from the menu.

Be aware that large documents (such as Word files or pdf files) and a lot of printing will make a long list and fill up your hard drive. Delete any unnecessary files from time to time.
